Kim, Chaewon (Dorothy)

is a South Korean and Toronto based visual expressionist.

Chaewon’s work comes from an interest in theories of subjectless subjectivity, selflessness, and emptiness in philosophy. It is instinctively painted that drive both decision and embraces accident by layering paint to meet unconditioned form, Chaewon calls it Pure “I”. It begins with a realistically sketched portrait based on a photograph, then she covers or wipes the initial subject and re-paint the new layers. The process of applying dots between the layers is meditation in tranquil, Chaewon tries to concentrate on inner mind rather than outside of the matrix system.
